Heute habe ich - wie jeden Montag - mit großem Vergnügen deinen #balkonhörnchen Kalender weitergeblättert, nicht ahnend, dass ich Besuch von einem real existierenden Kollegen im Garten bekommen würde. I am very close to throwing together my own medication tracker/reminder tool.
There's apps that are kinda nice, but they are always just on one platform. And whenever I decide to just ignore my phone for a few days, keeping that up to date is the only thing I still need to use it for.
Would love to throw something simple together that just runs on my server, sends ntfy messages to me at defined times, has some webhook for me to confirm that I've taken it and give me some basic data output on request.
Sounds simple enough that I could do it within my average attention span for programming projects

I've created a very minimal PoC of my medication tracker.
Notifications are triggered via Cronjobs and delivered via ntfy.
They include pre-defined actions for "Taken" and "Skipped".
Those actions trigger an http call to a webhook receiver that I threw together using bash (with the help of http.sh), which logs the action into a file for documentation purposes.
This makes it as cross-platform as I need it, as I can use ntfy and the ntfy actions wherever I want. It works the best on Android, on iOS it has to briefly launch the app into the foreground and on the web I would have to modify the CORS rule to allow the domain, but possible everywhere.
Now I would like to be able to add an optional custom note each time. So maybe I'll add an action to edit the content before sending by redirecting to a little pre-filled webpage form.
This is definitely going into the direction that I want

Making some process on the meds tracker API.
I can now create and manage an inventory of what should be tracked, incl. optional stock information.
Stock is reduced on "taken" event.
Now just gotta figure out how I can trigger "low stock" type information.
And I should make some of the output more useful. Maybe actually output data as JSON, instead of just winging it :D
Me: "Okay, so now how will I actually deal with sending out the notifications. Externally having to configure cron feels wonky"
worker.sh is the literal embodiment of "we have cron at home"; workers are just background jobs that run every n minutes; you can also start and stop them on will! fancy

Okay, very quirky thing I just found while wiring up the notification actions in ntfy:
The API URL is of course different from ntfy, so in the web UI the request will be blocked and it's telling me I have to allow it with "Access-Control-Allow-Origin”.
But funnily enough the request does actually go through, the result is just not accepted by the browser. At least it's that way in Safari, I haven't tested any other browser yet.
That is funny, but also ... concerning 
Now that stuff is starting to work, it's time to throw it into Git.

Inventory management is baseline functional
Returned to my meditrack tool and found a solution for the part that I was still most unsure about: How to actually trigger the notifications.
I thought I was going to use http.sh workers to do a cheap DIY cron, but I realized I would have to handle cases beyond just daily and weekly and I wasn't to keen on having to deal with stuff like timezones et al.
So I returned to my idea of just using cron for it and as the whole thing already runs in bash anyways, there’s nothing stopping me from just manipulating the user crontab directly!
So now I added a field to the inventory that can contain an optional cron expression. When the inventory is updated, those fields are fetched and a new crontab is assembled and installed.
Now I just have to write a utility function that the crontab can call to trigger the notification, such that notification control remains with my application.
Code is also once again nice and simple :3

Oh and yeah, the nice thing about doing something that's intended for myself first and foremost is that I don't have to care about making it "user friendly".

I’ve done something similar but more for chores overall and not just medicine. Basic idea was
- django app/database to track everything
- nfc tags so I can checkin with my phone easily
- ‘cron’ job to send messages if I am overdue for morning/lunch/evening tasks
Added LoRa information to rns.biggetje.net and put rnl.biggetje.net in the dns to redirect to it, so I can follow @msjl his naming scheme .

There's a "Compose Post" quick-tile you can add to the navigation shade, so it's available everywhere, not just when you're in the launcher.

Die größte Pride-Flagge Deutschlands? Mit über 120 Metern ist dieser Regenbogen beim #csd in Neu-Ulm und Ulm jedenfalls größer als die 100-Meter-Flagge, die in Berlin unterwegs war!
Wochenlang haben viele Freiwillige von Pride Ulm/Neu-Ulm mit Unterstützung aus dem Hausi die Bahnen auf unseren Maschinen fürs Nähcafé zusammengenäht. Ursprünglich sollten es nur 30 Meter werden, aber dann ist das etwas… eskaliert 😅
