We got her from a Labrador rescue a couple of days ago. She is a perfect girl who can do no wrong and also keeps trying to eat our artificial turf.
Her favorite thing right now is belly rubs and she just started following us around the house and _almost_ responding when her name is called.

Geliebtes Fediversum, kennt jemand eine Android-App, die einen Ordner mit z.B. Textdateien überwacht, und falls sich etwas ändert, die Änderungen via FTP (!) auf eine Webseite kopiert, das Ganze synchron hält, auch ggf. über mehrere Geräte?
Für Google Drive, allerdings nicht FTP, tut das bei mir seit längerer Zeit eine App namens Drive Sync. Sehr zuverlässig, nicht Open Source, aber einmalig für ein paar Euro gekauft. Möchte schrittweise von Google weg.

Frage an #Tusky-User*innen: Seit einigen Monaten ist es bei mir so, dass Tusky in den Notifications rumspringt wie eine Flipperkugel. Am Anfang dachte ich, Dreck aufm Display, aber es ist nichts dergleichen und passiert nur bei dieser App und nur in den Notifications. Was ist da los? Und hat das Problem sonst noch jemand?

Die einfachste Maßnahme ist 1/3 aller #Führerschein einzuziehen. Immer mehr FahrerInnen fahren aggressiv, missachten den Mindestabstand, gefährden Menschen. Benehmen sich als gehörte die Straße ihnen. Rasen in der Stadt. Gefährden Alle.
Wir müssen weg vom Benzin. Deshalb fordere ich:
Statt einer #Pendlerpauschale sollten die Strafen erhöht werden. Der Entzug von Führerscheinen soll erleichtert werden.
Dann reicht der Sprit für diejenigen, die auch fahren können.

Reasons:
- More resolution and details

That's interesting, tusky shows the 4 panels in a square so it actually looks like a regular comic when scrolling through the feed and then clicking on any one of them opens it full screen.
It makes for a really nice experience.

1) is bigger etc. as you say. Also better for alt text, that’s reason enough.
For the internet posting, both solution can be valid, but for printing / display, the old layout is still better.
(Though, if you have the laid out image and the four separate one available, it's probably the most flexible, not sure how much of an overhead it is ?)
I prefer a single image, because with multiple images I have to click on each one separately to open it. Even on mobile, I find it easy to read an entire comic as a single image. I am surprised by how many people prefer the larger single panels! Obviously I am an outlier.
Another possibility would be a single image that was one panel wide, so you scroll down to read it, as with mobile app sites like tapas and webtoon.
I'll keep reading regardless, obviously. 😊
I prefer the single image version even on my mobile, because I'm an old fogey and I'm too used to seeing it all in one go, but I can see a case for having both options available.

I think that splitting the comic into its individual panels changes the nature of the comic somehow; this is related, of course, to the fact that clients will often crop the individual images when displaying them as a grid but mostly that a comic displayed as individual panels is a slideshow; the simultaneity of the format gets lost
Is that a compelling argument? Probably not, it's fairly personal, I think. May I suggest posting the comic twice, once split and once as a whole?

sadly, I can't find my dice bag, so I can't roll my golden 20 to see if this is a good idea or not. :)
I think panel layouts are important for comics. It doesn't feel as coherent when you only see one panel at a time. Seeing the panels all together in a layout determined by the artist adds value to the whole work. Not to mention, the colors and lettering around the panels add to the character of the work.
If you are going to separate the panels, I would still like to see the border/margins around each panel (framing is important) and the title above the first panel. I feel that something important is lost when those aren't included.
That said, you could share it both ways. For example, you could post the whole comic the way you usually do, then comment with the images seperated, or vice versa.
Whatever you think is best. Feel free to experiment more!
I voted for a single picture, since that is better on a computer, which is what I usually use. But testing on mobile, I admit separate images is easier to view in a format large enough to easily read the text.
I worry that separate images will result in a shallower reading, since it discourages going back and revisiting earlier images in light of information gleaned from later ones.
Some on r/comics post 5 images. The 4 panels individually, and then altogether.
Just individually is fine by me; altogether feels like a holdover from pulp/print (especially if the panels are just simple squares and not composed into an intricate full-page/double-page spread)
Four separate images help it look good on mobile. 
With one exception: the joke lies in the structure of the four-panel comic. Breaking the fourth wall.
I’d give an example, but I’m a bit self-conscious about quoting myself.
I feel as this is a lose-lose situation because we can only do so much to please multiple platforms at once.
When Google+ started cropping my webcomic, I had no choice but to make a preview image and link to my website as a solution. (At least it's my site and not another webcomic platform.)
In the end, I am not allowing these platforms to dictate what format I have to make. Please the audience not the platforms.
Anyway what I see is, 1 tap/click vs 4 additional swipes/clicks.

probably one of those things that sounds good, but all the different user interfaces/cropping etc might be bad for something with text.
too bad we cant pick a display style, like carousel or whatever for the clients to render. or the crop fit -_-
I'm using Fedilab and scroll from bottom to top. And it arranges pics like:

Probably 5 years ago or more, I posted a test about sorting of pictures; and it was totally random for many clients on Fediverse. I somehow assumed that in 2026 the order would be preserved across the Fediverse; but I see there is no warranty about this.

@pedramardakani Thank you. Yes, that's correct, and thank you for noticing this example. Panel reading has a flow, that are more like curves; and in a 1 picture 2x2 grid I can play with it a lot. While in 4 pictures, the eye is reset to the top left and follow the diagonal of reading Left to Right and immediately chase the speechbubbles and the faces. Something about composition and the comic format is lost.
I put that on my list. I'm collecting data, I'll blog about my results soon.
I would prefer 4 pictures theory but as others have said clients unpredictable display is definitely a downside. Even the official web app crops them to 3:2 when you're viewing the whole post. Not a huge deal, but not a great first impression
(I'd argue clients should show the full images when they're all the same aspect ratio and it's in some reasonable range, but good luck getting the entire ecosystem to do that)

Maybe could be worth posting both, one as a reply to the other. Issues with the four separate panels:
– Panels gets cropped on default Mastodon so it doesn’t look that good and text/scene isn’t all visible
– Cannot be read at once on desktop, requires clicking around at least 4 times, an incentive to scroll past
– Harder to reshare easily (if that’s a goal) / no credits or licence (that can be fixed)
I see how it’s better for mobile. Also fit for Pixelfed and similar!

@solitha @budgetkratos Yes, no problem, and unfortunately, it's hard to color balance slightly on the golden yellow now for artists as ChatGPT genAI picture associated that with the infamous "yellow piss AI filter".
But here I needed this type of golden light ( for the theme, golden scarab dice, golden light ) and the contrast for the end panel.

The pink-fairy, not the adventurer, is the one saying “please please please let me try”.

I clicked the first one.. it went big and I could see all the detail and then I could scroll forward panel by panel so easily.. avoiding awkward pinch zooms….. so nice !

One of the cast had a golden 20 that seemed to roll exceptionally well for him. At the end of the campaign the DM ended up with it... and it was later stolen from his car.

a friend GMing an improvised game. She was rolling for everyone - same hand, same d10 for everyone.
Most rolls? Mostly around the middle, some highs, some lows. Rolls for me? *Once* got a number as high as 3.
Different group, CP2020, d10, higher is better, if you get 10 you keep rolling, on 1 things go badly. Life of team depends on the roll? How high do I need to roll? 7? 15? 22? I'll most likely get it. Any other roll? *Sometimes* I'll get as high as 3.

I have a friend in my roleplaying group who is… lucky and unlucky. We often joke that she should use a coin instead of a d20, because she either makes 1 or 20. Of course, not true, buuuuut it's frequent. (she once made a 20, then a 1, then a 20; and one time, three 20 in a row)
As for me… yeah, I think I would roll the golden twenty dice, and get a decent 12.

a metalic D20 die (and by extension all of it's set-mates) is the only IRL magic item I know of, though ours is bronze - it's a part of a suspiciously cheap metal dice set bought several years ago off of aliexpress by myself for my friend, who, due to it's low price started testing it with rolls, where across over 80 throws it ended up rolling with the average of like 16, but he noted every individual roll and there was no single side it was skewing towards, so he called me to report the anomaly.
We have since learned it matched him perfectly, for he is a funny player and it only rolls high for the funny. Bigest feat of that was when he was DMing our funny campaign - 12 or more consecutive hidden nat 20s (I don't remember exactly, he does) to ensure my characters pants, in which I put a lit torch, would not catch fire untill several in-game hours later, when it could lead to more shenanigans.
It was not the only time it did that, and since I've started borrowing it for my own funny rolls, we got to know it wasn't his throwing style doing that either.
And yes, it rolls low for serious stuff, it's just that with him holding it, it's not something that happens as commonly.
In my ideal web, this would be a single image with progressive loading (JXL?), whose metadata indicates that it is composed of different panels (each of which has image descriptions of their own) that can be zoomed to sequentially; clients that don't understand that show the full image, those that do show it as sequence depending on the user's preference.
Until that works, I find 4-pictures more practical.
First comment about it, and I really expected to get more about it, but maybe it was forgotten.
This is the original soundtrack I was listening while doing the character design. I also tried a lot to make a reference to Parn on the design and color palette, just a younger and 'goofier' version.

OMG. Ich habe es wieder gefunden, weil ich in exakt das gleiche Fahrzeug an der gleichen Stelle wieder eingestiegen bin (danke an die Umläufe von bahn.expert 💚) und es sich wunderschön im Klappsitz festgehalten hat, sodass es echt kaum zu finden war.

Pretty solid platform. Admittedly, I am a sucker for a good UI, but don't neglect learning the terminal tho. One thing that helps me is documentation. I document everything I am doing at the time. All the terminal commands, etc. That way, I can always go back to any point of administration, especially when the wheels fall off. There are so many commands and multiple commands to do the same. I've had a computer in front of me since the mid 70s and I still feel like a noob when it comes to my terminal game. Documentation helps me out a lot.

For me....everything. I'm 71, and the brain doesn't recall as well as it once did. So, my mantra is: If you didn't write it down, it didn't happen. Keep an eye on the battery, see if you can run the server without it installed, if it starts swelling, that means it has started to become unstable, and may become a fire hazard.
So I'd just ditch the battery and leave it plugged in, which it is regardless, to not strain the battery due to constant trickle charging?
I'd normally be fine doing that if the charging port wasn't a little finicky at times when it comes to stable charging. I have to wiggle and twist the charger at times and if I move it, it's not being charged again. Maybe I should just fix the charging point or switch it out - should be relatively cheap and easy
tlp. If your hardware is supported, you can use it to limit the charge of your battery to 80%, which seems to help with that issue.
See if that laptop model allows you to limit the battery charge. If the battery's still holding a charge, isn't swollen, and is kept at room temperature you have about a 1 in a million chance of a battery fire.

That's what you see further to the back by the wall (50€ used, Fritz!Box 7510). Unfortunately, it only comes with one (1!!!!!) singular LAN port, so I had to buy a switch for 5 LAN ports in total (another 12€) which is sufficient for all the devices we use at home.
7510 is an extremely bad router, it doesn't even have 5Ghz WiFi which is like standard for 10 years now. The router is your core access to the internet. Saving money in this place is definitely the wrong choice. You could have gotten a used 7520/7530 (has 4x LAN and proper 5 GhZ WiFi) for like 10€ more and wouldn't require the 12€ switch...
You should maybe do more research before doing stuff in the future...

As a networking guy, for homelab setups the router is not core of your network. That role falls on the switch. In a perfect world, you'd have a layer-3 switch handling traffic between segments and only send traffic to the router for egressing the network or a few other cases. But in the real world, you have to start somewhere and that's what you did. Don't let anyone tell you that you did it wrong. If someone can't make things work without having the perfect equipment, its probably the wrong hobby for those people.
Regarding network-wide adblocking, I had a squid proxy running that did this. Every machine was issued a self-signed certificate and the connections were basically MITM so I could check the calls being made. You can run into some issues with SSL-pinning in Android or things like HSTS for common websites sometimes, but overall it did function pretty well after tweaking.
If you do decide later to replace your existing router, I'd suggest trying to build your own. My current router is a mini-PC with dual NICs running Arch configured to do packet filtering, routing, a few automations, etc. It was refurbished and cost me about $80 USD. Its a really good experience in building servers and learning how various routing protocols work.

Es macht mir nix aus wenn jemand neben mir raucht, das triggert mich auch nicht. Ich riech das nach wie vor gern 🤷
Blöd isses nur wenn der Jieper von innen kommt, es wird zwar weniger aber das triggert mich dann doch is nur gut das dass immer wieder schnell rum geht.
Ich fang jetzt auch nicht mehr an obwohl ich immer gern geraucht hab aber is halt für die Gesundheit und den Geldbeutel besser.

The #valheim install on my #steamdeck stopped launching after some recent upgrades. Looking at the logs, I'm suspecting that it has something to do with how steam syncs game data between #ubuntu and #steamdeck (which is based on arch). I play on both the steamdeck and my home PC running Ubuntu.
Has anyone else run into this issue?

Probiere es aus. Lege dir erst einmal einen Account an und beschäftige dich ein wenig mit der Software, bevor du einen Wechsel in Erwägung ziehst. Vieles ist nahezu identisch zu Mastodon und einiges wird dich in eine Lernkurve zwingen.
Dabei solltest du immer kleine Schritte gehen. Andernfalls kann Friendica schnell überfordernd wirken.
Sollte es interessant für dich werden, kannst du deine Kontakte z.B. von Mastodon zu Friendica migrieren.
Noch ein Hinweis: Friendica ist nicht thematisch organisert. Die lokale Timeline spielt nicht die gleiche Rolle, wie bei Mastodon. Der Grund ist, dass Interessen eher in Gruppen behandelt werden (und davon kannst du viele haben). Daher ist die Auswahl des Servers nicht der entscheidende Faktor.
