See, I left Facebook more than 10 years ago, my home has been Microsoft-free since around 1998. I run my #Homelab where I store all my digital stuff (photos, scanned documents, LibreOffice files etc) on a NAS (Network Attached Storage) server that runs Linux. I have never used AWS or Azure, if I need some compute capacity, I rent VPS (Virtual Private Server) at EU based hosting companies. I did #DigitalSovereignty long before the term even existed. You can become the owner of your data too!

Experimentieren mit dem neuen Friendica Theme-Template von @Random Penguin, jedoch mit einigen Abwandlungen, die besser zu diesem Server passen.
Wichtig ist mir dabei, dass die Profilseitenleiste nicht in verschiedene Segmente aufgebrochen wird, sondern als Block erkennbar ist. Das Theme bleibt an verschiedenen Stellen auch bei dem Style, wie es von Friendica vorgesehen ist. Andere Dinge, die wie Graustufen, die im Thread verwendet werden, sind raus genommen, weil das so einen Altbackenen Anstrich gibt, der nicht notwendig ist.
Es ist schon beeindruckend, wie viel mal mit ein wenig Codezeilen aus der Anwendung rausholen kann. Vielleicht inspiriert das weitere Webdesigner (neben randompenguin) sich mit dem Thema zu beschäftigen.

I feed my music collection with Audio CDs from the public library. Ripping them is absolutely legal in Germany. I buy (used) DVD sets of TV series I like, rip them to my NAS and make them available on my local network. Sure, it takes quite a learning curve, but in my opinion it's definitely worth it.

Even more so with the NFC payments that are integrated to mobile phones, mostly going through either Google or Apple. Very few European alternatives for NFC card payments with a mobile phone.

Als Antwort auf Jan Wildeboer 😷 • • •That's a great effort, but what works for one individual doesn't necessarily work for a society unfortunately.
I do use Pcloud with servers in Switzerland (before I was using Sync with servers in Canada but their service sucked), but that's hardly scalable for society at large. Having your own NAS is cool but it doesn't provide the redundancy needed in case of something happening at home.
Also, unfortunately, in a work environment, all these "office" suites are really bad for collaborative work as soon as someone is using a different product unless you work with formatless text. Linux is NOT user-friendly regardless of the hype around it (no, not even the Ubuntu or Mint flavour). The average worker has difficulties in editing a PDF file so imagine.
I don't think people have to reinvent the wheel though. In my opinion, there are far bigger evils out there than Microsoft. One is sitting at the White House and is actually far from being a friend of Bill Gates and his philanthropic foundation.
