Vegan sein ist supi🌱.
Aber wenn aus Überzeugung Überheblichkeit wird, verlieren wir das Wichtigste: den Dialog.
Menschen ändern sich durch Inspiration, nicht durch Verachtung.
Wer andere für ihre Entscheidungen verachtet oder sich als moralisch überlegen betrachtet, schreckt mehr ab als er überzeugt. Vegansein bedeutet für mich Mitgefühl und das sollte auch für Menschen gelten, die noch einen anderen Weg gehen.
💚 Lasst uns Brücken bauen statt Mauern.

ich glaube tatsächlich, dass bei der ethischen Frage gar keine Kompromisse möglich sind und kann viele Veganer*innen, die „negativ“ auffallen, durchaus verstehen, es ist eben ein konsequenter Standpunkt.

Ich sehe #vegan sein auch eher als Einstellung als als Ernährungsweise. Es geht um den ein konstruktives wohlwollendes miteinander. Mit den Menschen, mit den Tieren, mit dem Planeten und allem was darauf lebt. Und ja ich muss trotzdem essen und trinken.
Ja, vegan sein ist supi. Ich würde fast sagen ich bewundere Menschen die vegan leben und sich damit nicht selbst beweihräuchern und auf Bekehrungsmission sind.
Ich hatte auf Bluesky so unangenehme Reaktionen auf einen Skeet darüber, wie schwierig ich es finde, anders zu kochen, aber trotzdem versuche, immer weniger Fleisch essen.
Ich hätte keine Achtung vor mir selbst, landete dann u. a. darunter. Ich habe echt selten eine selbstgerechtere Blase als die vegane erlebt.
Und trotzdem ist es die beste Art sich zu ernähren, auf so vielen Ebenen. Es gibt so viel mehr carnivore Pfeifen, deswegen hört auch keine/r auf, Tiere zu essen.
Den eigenen, netten, zarten, toleranten, gefälligen Weg als den besten und überzeugensten zu sehen...ist das nicht auch eine Art von Überheblichkeit?
Versteht mich nicht falsch: Ich gehe diese Art von Überzeugungs-Weg auch schon seit vielen Jahren, aber ich habe in den letzten Jahren vermehrt Zweifel daran bekommen und aus anderen aktivistischen Kreisen mitgenommen, Aktivistas zu supporten, die einen anderen Weg gehen, anstatt sich von diesen abzugrenzen.

Edit: Habe "Fleisch" mit "Tier" ersetzt, sonst verwechselt das noch einer mit Fruchtfleisch.

Geliebtes Fediversum, kennt jemand eine Android-App, die einen Ordner mit z.B. Textdateien überwacht, und falls sich etwas ändert, die Änderungen via FTP (!) auf eine Webseite kopiert, das Ganze synchron hält, auch ggf. über mehrere Geräte?
Für Google Drive, allerdings nicht FTP, tut das bei mir seit längerer Zeit eine App namens Drive Sync. Sehr zuverlässig, nicht Open Source, aber einmalig für ein paar Euro gekauft. Möchte schrittweise von Google weg.

Frage an #Tusky-User*innen: Seit einigen Monaten ist es bei mir so, dass Tusky in den Notifications rumspringt wie eine Flipperkugel. Am Anfang dachte ich, Dreck aufm Display, aber es ist nichts dergleichen und passiert nur bei dieser App und nur in den Notifications. Was ist da los? Und hat das Problem sonst noch jemand?

ich kann den Gedanken von Frau #Reiche , ein knappes Gut günstiger zu machen nicht navollziehen. Freitag im Großraumbüro, nur knapp die Hälfte der Kollegys anwesend und dennoch halte ich die toxische Atmosphäre kaum aus.
Geläster am Telefon über andere Personen im Unternehmen, gekünsteltes Gelächter über ein Kundy, usw.

it’s not for me, mainly because it would just be so difficult to share in another context (e.g. in chat with a friend) as four individual panels. My app does a carousel view though, so still cuts them off. I think you’re not going to get a consistent experience in fedi just because so many ways of looking at stuff.

I like the higher resolution and ease of reading, but it’s so weird to flip through 4 panels on the app in mobile. I only see 1 and a sliver of another. I’m also excruciatingly lazy, so yeah 1 image of 4 panels is better for me at the moment.

That's interesting, tusky shows the 4 panels in a square so it actually looks like a regular comic when scrolling through the feed and then clicking on any one of them opens it full screen.
It makes for a really nice experience.
I‘d say, it should be the artists choice - if you have panels which really need many details, split the panels. If the „overall impression“ of the panels seem very important - one image with all panels. Or maybe mix it up?

I dunno... comics == panels, in my book. Also bandwidth and web cost...
I prefer the one image method because then I can just read the whole thing without extra clicking. But I do have fairly large screen + large enough phone to not require zooming.
I feel like that might depend on the measurements. It does look cool and comic-y when the panels are differently sized. With the 4 panels being perfectly square it also works as a "slideshow" but is less unique.

on reddit i've seen a lot of artists first have the panels as individual image, and then another picture with all of them combined.. though won't work with mastodon as that has a 4 images limit per post and even if you post from e.g. misskey the mastodon ui cuts off at the 4th with no indication that there's more 
@lina Good to know about Miskey; I had no idea the Mastodon UI was trimming the pictures count if above 4. That sounds bad, because if a comic artist on Miskey post a story in 6 panels and his client allows it on the Fediverse, it's a shame that Masto UI ruins the story and trim it...

I've been seeing quite a lot of artists take this route as of late.
I don't use a screen reader, but I imagine using one picture per panel might make it easier on people who use one. On top of keeping the alt text per picture more concise 
For the internet posting, both solution can be valid, but for printing / display, the old layout is still better.
(Though, if you have the laid out image and the four separate one available, it's probably the most flexible, not sure how much of an overhead it is ?)
I prefer a single image, because with multiple images I have to click on each one separately to open it. Even on mobile, I find it easy to read an entire comic as a single image. I am surprised by how many people prefer the larger single panels! Obviously I am an outlier.
Another possibility would be a single image that was one panel wide, so you scroll down to read it, as with mobile app sites like tapas and webtoon.

I prefer the single image version even on my mobile, because I'm an old fogey and I'm too used to seeing it all in one go, but I can see a case for having both options available.
Maybe posting one version on a post and the alternative as a reply might get the best of both worlds?
I like the split format on social media because I feel it's more accessible, especially in mobile, but isn't it a lot of extra work for you?
@oblomov I already automatized the picture split with imagemagick at the renderfarm level ( peppercarrot.com/0_sources/min… ) so I have picture a, b, c, d now for free. The only additional work is to copy paste my transcript into four pictures, and also take care of really inserting them into the right order.
oh nice. If Mastodon supported the appropriate EXIF tags for the alt text even the script splitting could be automated!
I like the idea of several pictures, so I don't have to zoom and pan. But after trying it here, I realize that I really like to see the comic laid out in frames, getting the comic book feel. And that outweighs removing the zoom/pan issue for me.
Could you keep the 4 picture format but also add a link to the comic on your website for those who prefer that format?

I think that splitting the comic into its individual panels changes the nature of the comic somehow; this is related, of course, to the fact that clients will often crop the individual images when displaying them as a grid but mostly that a comic displayed as individual panels is a slideshow; the simultaneity of the format gets lost
Is that a compelling argument? Probably not, it's fairly personal, I think. May I suggest posting the comic twice, once split and once as a whole?
I like the individual alt text, the ability to share one panel, and zooming without panning.

I more and more think about the inverse of what you wrote: keep the 2x2 single picture here, and put a link direct to a fullscreen/swipe reader, something where I can also put bonus (like making of, sources).
That's because I also collect that there are clients reading the Fediverse on their way (eg. Fedilab showing picture in reverse order, or another one, showing them like files in attachment).

That's because I also collect that there are clients reading the Fediverse on their way (eg. Fedilab showing picture in reverse order, or another one, showing them like files in attachment).
@gunchleoc I voted firstly for four single ones, because the scrolling on mobile annoyed me on every single comic. But now, I think that the 2x2 is better as it looks more comic-like and has its specific style. If you still go for the single ones, maybe frames (also with copyright and episode title, numbering) could help.
on the website this single one looks better, but the mastodon post works pretty well with 4 pictures.

Sounds stupid, but i like a 5 panels in one picture. it allows 4 normal panels and 1 panel where you can add more details, the 5th panel can either be a wide or double-high panel.

I like it for reading personally, but is much harder to share off-platform in this format (ie, send this one to my daughter, she'd laugh hard, but is not on mastodon). Maybe include link to the classic format (which then is even better for sharing as is not C&P based share)
I think panel layouts are important for comics. It doesn't feel as coherent when you only see one panel at a time. Seeing the panels all together in a layout determined by the artist adds value to the whole work. Not to mention, the colors and lettering around the panels add to the character of the work.
If you are going to separate the panels, I would still like to see the border/margins around each panel (framing is important) and the title above the first panel. I feel that something important is lost when those aren't included.
That said, you could share it both ways. For example, you could post the whole comic the way you usually do, then comment with the images seperated, or vice versa.
Whatever you think is best. Feel free to experiment more!

Haven't been an issue with yours for me but reminds me that sometimes I wonder whether to read the panels manga-order or comics-order, which splitting them up would probably solve.
I like the four images on mobile, but of course that locks you in to four unconnected images where you can't play around with the medium as much.
I voted for a single picture, since that is better on a computer, which is what I usually use. But testing on mobile, I admit separate images is easier to view in a format large enough to easily read the text.
I worry that separate images will result in a shallower reading, since it discourages going back and revisiting earlier images in light of information gleaned from later ones.
Some on r/comics post 5 images. The 4 panels individually, and then altogether.
Just individually is fine by me; altogether feels like a holdover from pulp/print (especially if the panels are just simple squares and not composed into an intricate full-page/double-page spread)

I feel as this is a lose-lose situation because we can only do so much to please multiple platforms at once.
When Google+ started cropping my webcomic, I had no choice but to make a preview image and link to my website as a solution. (At least it's my site and not another webcomic platform.)
In the end, I am not allowing these platforms to dictate what format I have to make. Please the audience not the platforms.
Anyway what I see is, 1 tap/click vs 4 additional swipes/clicks.

Keep it as 4 pictures, one per panel. Because if someone needs the zoom/magnifier it is more easy to handle. With zoom/magnifier off 1 pic shows in full screen mode as it is default more then 4 panels in one pic.
could I vote for 5 pictures? One panel per picture and the last picture being the whole comic? That makes sharing the comic easier outside of Fediverse. But I'm just happy to read these comics no matter the format.

it’s not for me, mainly because it would just be so difficult to share in another context (e.g. in chat with a friend) as four individual panels. My app does a carousel view though, so still cuts them off. I think you’re not going to get a consistent experience in fedi just because so many ways of looking at stuff.

I adore seeing your art bigger and higher res on the app. Each image shines so muxh brighter. But I have to agree that it loses the gestalt of the comic.
the preview rendered in signal and discord will only show the last image. Which works out really well for the d20 comic but may not for others

Probably 5 years ago or more, I posted a test about sorting of pictures; and it was totally random for many clients on Fediverse. I somehow assumed that in 2026 the order would be preserved across the Fediverse; but I see there is no warranty about this.

@pedramardakani Thank you. Yes, that's correct, and thank you for noticing this example. Panel reading has a flow, that are more like curves; and in a 1 picture 2x2 grid I can play with it a lot. While in 4 pictures, the eye is reset to the top left and follow the diagonal of reading Left to Right and immediately chase the speechbubbles and the faces. Something about composition and the comic format is lost.
I put that on my list. I'm collecting data, I'll blog about my results soon.

on *oma you can zoom in with the mousewheel very easily without worrying about zooming the rest of the page, but on literally everything else it's such a pain in the ass to read comics unless they're separated like this

I voted no just because sometimes I share it with friends and it's faster to send 1 file rather than 4. Other than that, whatever you decide will be fine 😉👍
What I've seen work well is one image, but have all the panels arranged vertically in one column. It gives full size panels on mobile and lets you scroll through them.
What I think is missing when you split it is the context : author, name of the series, licence. Everything that is not exactly inside each picture but holds them together to give sense. But said that, I do not own a smartphone, so probably not the concerned audience. I like books, and the full picture with 4 panels is closer to what I would expect from a book.

I selected "all 4 panels in 1 image" because otherwise everything depends on how the particular client displays it. The client shouldn't control that, you should.

I would prefer 4 pictures theory but as others have said clients unpredictable display is definitely a downside. Even the official web app crops them to 3:2 when you're viewing the whole post. Not a huge deal, but not a great first impression
(I'd argue clients should show the full images when they're all the same aspect ratio and it's in some reasonable range, but good luck getting the entire ecosystem to do that)

@jcolag Hey, I keep posting all manually, just because I don't like really using script for my social interactions, but I pretty automated all the "split in four pictures" with Imagemagick and bash; I have the four output pictures with no effort now. The longer part is just to copy/paste the four part of my transcript for the alt text. It's a couple minute longer to do, but in comparison to the 16 hours this comic strip took me to paint, it's insignifiant.

Four individual images is not as convenient to work with if one wants to share your comic elsewhere, but the image quality is certainly better. Anyway, are we technically allowed to share your comic around?

I love the 4 pictures. With one picture, I subconsciously already see the last one, so the surprise at the end is lost on me. Reading on the phone, I only see the first picture and then can enjoy the others one by one. Story works better for me that way.

Maybe could be worth posting both, one as a reply to the other. Issues with the four separate panels:
– Panels gets cropped on default Mastodon so it doesn’t look that good and text/scene isn’t all visible
– Cannot be read at once on desktop, requires clicking around at least 4 times, an incentive to scroll past
– Harder to reshare easily (if that’s a goal) / no credits or licence (that can be fixed)
I see how it’s better for mobile. Also fit for Pixelfed and similar!
Also no “branding”, I originally thought “is it a new series/a standalone story?” until I read the last hashtag.

@solitha @budgetkratos Yes, no problem, and unfortunately, it's hard to color balance slightly on the golden yellow now for artists as ChatGPT genAI picture associated that with the infamous "yellow piss AI filter".
But here I needed this type of golden light ( for the theme, golden scarab dice, golden light ) and the contrast for the end panel.

kinda half and half here. I like the reading of one image of a time as it prevents spoiling the punchline. But when on limited data loading 4 images is a bit "heavy" when I can still read everything in one.

I clicked the first one.. it went big and I could see all the detail and then I could scroll forward panel by panel so easily.. avoiding awkward pinch zooms….. so nice !

I believe this should be entirely up to you. Personally, if you make four individual panels and join them in a post, that's much easier for me to read because I'm older than some rocks. But the more important thing to me is do you enjoy what you're doing, and are you doing it in a way that avoids burning you out. Because what format you choose to post it in is far less painful than having you burn out and stop posting!

I have a friend in my roleplaying group who is… lucky and unlucky. We often joke that she should use a coin instead of a d20, because she either makes 1 or 20. Of course, not true, buuuuut it's frequent. (she once made a 20, then a 1, then a 20; and one time, three 20 in a row)
As for me… yeah, I think I would roll the golden twenty dice, and get a decent 12.

a metalic D20 die (and by extension all of it's set-mates) is the only IRL magic item I know of, though ours is bronze - it's a part of a suspiciously cheap metal dice set bought several years ago off of aliexpress by myself for my friend, who, due to it's low price started testing it with rolls, where across over 80 throws it ended up rolling with the average of like 16, but he noted every individual roll and there was no single side it was skewing towards, so he called me to report the anomaly.
We have since learned it matched him perfectly, for he is a funny player and it only rolls high for the funny. Bigest feat of that was when he was DMing our funny campaign - 12 or more consecutive hidden nat 20s (I don't remember exactly, he does) to ensure my characters pants, in which I put a lit torch, would not catch fire untill several in-game hours later, when it could lead to more shenanigans.
It was not the only time it did that, and since I've started borrowing it for my own funny rolls, we got to know it wasn't his throwing style doing that either.
And yes, it rolls low for serious stuff, it's just that with him holding it, it's not something that happens as commonly.

This reminds me of the Lord of Mysteries novel series. There's a side plot involving a dice that curses you with bad luck. It nearly got to "Final Destination" levels at one point 😬

In my ideal web, this would be a single image with progressive loading (JXL?), whose metadata indicates that it is composed of different panels (each of which has image descriptions of their own) that can be zoomed to sequentially; clients that don't understand that show the full image, those that do show it as sequence depending on the user's preference.
Until that works, I find 4-pictures more practical.
@chrysn Oh yes, but lets push the dream even further: JXL for the raster part but embed inside a SVG, so the texts are also possible to be selected and read out-loud the by machine, and a description of the panel also float under it for accessibility. 😺

OMG. Ich habe es wieder gefunden, weil ich in exakt das gleiche Fahrzeug an der gleichen Stelle wieder eingestiegen bin (danke an die Umläufe von bahn.expert 💚) und es sich wunderschön im Klappsitz festgehalten hat, sodass es echt kaum zu finden war.
Wasn Stress ey. Macht das nicht. Für euch getestet. Nehmt einfach alles wieder mit, was ihr in den Zug bringt 🙈
und was ich noch gelernt habe: immer Zugpersonal fragen!
hab gerade noch mit einem geplaudert und er sagte, es gäbe nen Chat, wo informiert wird, wenn Zugpersonal was findet und wo sie es abgeben. Geht also auch später am Tag noch, wenn man wie ich beim Aussteigen was liegen lässt.
Dann muss man nicht auf Antwort der Verlustmeldung warten.
