Wie kommt eins dann an die Daten?
SSH auf die NAS und per sudo docker cp alles extrahieren.
Augen auf beim Upload, hätte mir einiges an Grübel erspart.

#decemberAdventure day 9: back to #gopher
A number of years ago I setup my own search tool for the gopherspace. I've not re-done a full crawl since getting it working, and due to some design issues, it eventually stopped working reliably enough to keep running. Due to RSI issues, I have prioritized other projects in the intervening years, but have slowly made a list of notes and plans for fixing it. Today's adventure is the first part in implementing my plan and getting it back to a useable state.
I've rewritten the crawler. The new one is a lot less buggy than the original, and has a number of improvement including a correctly working filter (supporting robots.txt and a defined list of servers not to index), better discovery of servers from the gopher maps, tracking when servers were last scanned, request rate limiting, and facilities for avoiding recording duplicate entries.
My initial tests have been on my main gopher server (forthworks.com:70) and a number of my private ones. This totals 32k selectors across 3 servers. I'm going to start a broader scan of the public gopherspace soon, so will update once I get through the initial scan of a few servers.

I like the Gemini Protocol, but — I think too many of the other small-net protocols try to mimick Gemini.
I think things would be better in some ways if — those so inclined to create a new small-net protocol would be more creative (rather than conforming to the patterns that the Gemini Protocol has used or established).
Sure, you can accept the small-net values, but — try something new, as far as designing a protocol goes.

Wenn ich jetzt einen kleinen privaten #Matrix-Server aufsetzen wollte...
Der Scope ist: Der Freundeskreis unserer Kinder sollen sich techoligarchenfrei und sicher unterhalten können. Dabei die Möglichkeiten eines modernen Messengers nutzen und kennenlernen können, aber ohne der Gefahr von Überwachung oder Fremdkontakten die von außen irgendwelche Spam/Scam-Anfragen schicken können.
Was würdet ihr mir raten. Einfach das Debian-Paket von Synapse, oder in einer Kubernetes/K3s Umgebung das Helmchart von Element Pro.
Der Matrix-Server soll auch - zumindest anfangs, solange die Kids noch so jung sind - nicht föderieren (maximal mit meinem persönlichen Matrix-Server).
Ich würde die Eltern der Freunde einladen, dass sie ihren Kindern das gestatten und ihnen auch einen Account anbieten, damit sie mit ihren Kindern in Kontakt treten können.
Smartphones sind leider schon sehr verbreitet... aber glücklicherweise noch ohne Wattsepp & Co.
Meine Gedanken waren zwar bislang "Fix kein Smartphone"... aber mittlerweile haben wir uns auf einen anderen Gedanken verständigt... NOCH sind unsere Kids formbar und nehmen von uns Eltern noch Ideen an. Wenn ich einen verantwortungsvollen Umgang mit Smartphone & Co bei den Kids haben will, muss ich JETZT einsteigen und mit den Kids all das durchnehmen und praktisch leben, was in der "Digitalen Grundbildung" der Schule offensichtlich völlig hinten runter fällt.

sehr gute Argumentation, finde ich toll! Klingt nach einem Haufen Arbeit, für eine One-Man-Show muss man sich da ganz schön was aufschaffen.
Kurz gesponnen: Sowas als digitalverein für den Stadtteil oder die Nachbargemeinden.
Wäre total cool so ein Portfolio etabliert zu haben und wenn man umzieht physisch wandert die Account-Gefolgschaft einfach mit auf den neuen Server.

Nun ich betreibe ja schon einen ganzen Stack solcher Software für mich privat.
1. um meine eigenen Anwendungen zu haben
2. um zu lernen, wie man sowas betreibt.
Die Wartungsaufgaben sind da relativ gering.
Natürlich als one-man-show ist man dann halt immer gefordert... auch im Urlaub. Das macht mir eh ein wenig Kopfzerbrechen.
Und die Serverkosten müsste ich auch allein stemmen.
Leider habe ich es im Bekanntenkreis sehr oft gesehen, dass auf die Kids der Druck von außen so groß wird, dass sie dann doch zu WhatsApp, Insta, FB gehen, weil da ja alle sind. Das Grundproblem ist, dass du umgeben bist von digital unfähigen Eltern, die ihre Kinder in diese Richtungen prägen.
Wenn wir die Kinder retten wollen müssen wir die Eltern wach bekommen.
