oh I love this! Was thinking about this just today while I was browsing through Goodreads, owned by Amazon.

I'm still trying to find a way to import from Anobii: did you perchance find any and willing to share please? Apart from gifting all my data also to Goodreads in order to reimport from there it seems the other guides online are not updated and scripts don't work as expected on anobii's exports :/

Is there a section of Anobii's settings that lets you export your data as CSV files?

I tried to use BookWyrm a couple of years ago but there doesn't seem to be any interoperability between it and Goodreads. I have a network of a handful of people on Goodreads so I feel I have to stick there 🙁

The network effect is very difficult to leave, that's why Amazon etc tend to ban interoperability.

If you ever do feel able to leave Amazon in the future though, it's good you know there are alternatives 🙂

The main idea of the Fediverse is to prevent this kind of situation, as people can switch servers without leaving the overall network.

I never buy anything from Amazon. I think Goodreads is the only thing in their Empire I use at all.

What we need is a client that lets me post to both and aggregates feeds from both.

I don't think this is possible as Amazon has been shutting down Goodreads's APIs:

@Fedi.Tips

I'd love to run my own instance of Bookwyrm to take some load off bookwyrm.social, but it seems that the account export has been disabled for years now.

It's not just bookwyrm.social, there are also lots of other BookWyrm instances you can join instead?
